UNPACK the prompt
• Underline or highlight key words.
• Number the parts of the writing
prompt.
• Plan how you will respond to
the prompt. Think about the text
structure, and decide which
strategies will help you plan and
organize your ideas. (expository, narrative, descriptive? Outline)
•Answer the prompt by restating the question
and writing a well developed paper that covers
the points you have numbered.
•Check off each part of the prompt as you
complete it.
• *Be sure you clearly and specifically respond to
all parts of the prompt.
•Know that you’ve done your best by checking
for content, organization, language, and
appearance (COLA) .
